How do you work out the oxidation state of an organic compound?
kashanrat asked:
For example, how do you work out the oxidation state of C2H5OH using an algebraic equation?
I always seem to get -2 for the oxidation state. Is it possible that oxidation state for Organic Compounds cannot be found this way?

the formula is
CH3CH2OH
first C has oxidation number -3
second C has oxidation number -1 Dr.A
