A good place to start might be your state’s Cooperative Extension service. Every state has a Cooperative Extension service associated with one of the state’s major universities and most counties have a local office. In addition to professional farm advisers, they have thousands of publications that you can read, many for free. They provide non-biased research-based information to farmers and the general public on agricultural issues. If you are looking for information on commodity crops (corn, soybeans, etc), try the website of a midwest state cooperative extension. For specialty crops (fruits, vegetables, nuts) check out California (www.ucanr.org). Wherever you are, your local office can provide you with locally relevant information and help direct you to other resources. Ed
