What is a good smelling organic indoor insecticide?

organic
roadrunner asked:

What type of indoor insecticide smells good, is safe to use around children, pets, and people with autoimmune conditions? Organic if possible?
Anyone have a nice-smelling insecticide?

Try citronella, diatomacious earth, hedge apples (keeps ants away). Also daily vacuuming, sweeping dusting and general cleaning will go a long way towards keeping your home pest free.

None of these will be as effective as chemical poisons as most organic insecticides are more repellents than killers. But of course the chemicals will make you very ill so there you go.

Not to mention organics is all about balance and inside your house is an eco system that if allowed to be balanced will be self controlling. Spiders and centipedes do a good job at keeping ants, roaches, etc in check so you don’t have to resort to broad spectrum poisons (which will kill both pest and beneficial insects). I realize a lot of people have been brainwashed by the chemical companies into believeing ALL insects and spiders are bad and are truly afraid of these creatures, most of whom are not harmful in any way to us humans. If you must continue to believe this myth than you must use the most toxic chemicals in order to destroy 100% of the insects and spiders in your house. ohiorganic

It depends on the pest. What are you trying to get rid of?

Most of the time, pesticides should be a last resort anyway, so even an organic (safe?) pesticides should be a last resort. Management of the pest is probably your best bet, and that is very pest specific. If they’re indoor pests, try this website. It is meant for Californians, but as like 75% or something of pest sprays are for ants (and sprays are one of the WORST things you can do for ants), odds are the site will have info, and you’ll have ants!

Incidently, there are also a lot of great ideas for outside pests too, but again, it’s geared towards Californians… Miss Vida

If you go to your local home center, check there. They have a selection of non scented and safe insecticides. The one I use is unscented and it’s made by Ortho, Ortho Max.
    Good Luck, ;-) Tony
