What is better for a one year old: organic milk or regular milk?

organic
Bluuueee! asked:

My aunt just warms up regular whole milk for my one year old cousin but we have organic milk at home. Is it better if we warm organic milk instead?

“Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over non-organic food, says a report published Wednesday in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.”

Save your cash, mama. :) Kirsten

Organic means the cows have not been treated with any hormones etc. I prefer organic whenever possible even though research says (as far as veggies, fruit and food go) it isn’t any better; not sure about milk. I like knowing it wasn’t shot full of unecessary stuff or treated with chemicals. Dalton’s Mommy & Kaiah due 2

Organic is always better. Hormones and pesticides for my baby? No thank you. Zoe’s Mom

Its a very tough one. Organic crops are selectively bred to be bug resistant, so therefore the natural poisons on organic crops are probably nearly equal to the artificial ones put on normal crops. Both cause problems in a high enough dose. More organic crops are eaten by pests still, so I would say normal crops are the worst for the human body. The problem is there is an ever increasing range of pesticides that are sprayed on normal crops. Side effects? - no-one knows. This is then passed through the food chain to the cow and then to us. There is the argument that you cant hide from poisons, just like germs. The body gets better at dealing with poisons, as long as they are in small doses, but as the supermarkets push for cheaper prices from farmers, you can bet they wont put your health interests first.
I think its common sense. A little of everything organic when you can afford to - and non organic sometimes also to enable your body to build up a resistance to pesticides. Its not always best to hide altogether from poisons as just like germs, if your child is eventually exposed to them in a big dose, it will do them real damage. Who knows if your baby will follow your healthy ways as an adult? SomthingWrongInTheWorld
